Unbelievable Victory! Ithaca College Dominates St. Lawrence – Final Score 51-14! Must-Read Football Triumph!

The Ithaca College football team faced off against the St. Lawrence Saints and secured a resounding victory with a final score of 51–14. This triumph marked the Bombers’ second consecutive season of sweeping their Liberty League opponents.

The game began with a promising three-and-out for the Bombers, only to be marred by a roughing the punter penalty. Despite this setback, the Bombers’ defense remained resolute and managed to get the Saints off the field.

Junior Will Lederman executed a skillful pooch punt, pinning the Bombers deep within their own eight-yard line. Nevertheless, despite the unfavorable field position, the Bombers displayed their prowess with an 11-play, 92-yard drive, culminating in an eight-yard touchdown by senior running back Jalen Leonard-Osbourne.

First-year quarterback Colin Schumm showcased his deep ball abilities, connecting with senior wide receiver Sam Kline for substantial gains. Unfortunately, junior kicker Derek Baldin missed the extra point, leaving the Bombers with a 6–0 lead with 4:49 left in the first quarter.

The Saints quickly retaliated, capitalizing on a significant third and eight completion from Lederman to senior wide receiver Shane Clarke, which set the stage for first-year running back Jackson Tewksbury to score a 53-yard touchdown. A successful extra point by sophomore kicker Clayton Fogler handed the Saints a 7–6 lead, with 1:37 remaining in the first quarter.

As the first quarter wound down and the Bombers faced a challenging third and 10, Schumm found Kline again for a 14-yard completion, securing a fresh set of downs and closing out the quarter.

Just two plays into the second quarter, Leonard-Osbourne once again demonstrated his prowess, dashing 34 yards for a touchdown. This time, Baldin successfully converted the extra point, extending the Bombers’ lead to 13–7 with 13:05 remaining in the second quarter.

The Saints showed promise in moving the ball after the Bombers’ touchdown, but Lederman’s scramble was disrupted by a Bombers defender, resulting in a fumble that junior defensive back Jake Connolly recovered.

Subsequent to a three-and-out by the Bombers’ offense, the defense swiftly regained possession for the Bombers. Graduate student linebacker Jason Haber secured an interception, positioning the Bombers at the Saints’ 19-yard line.

In a turn of events, the Saints managed to intercept Schumm in the red zone, preventing a Bombers touchdown attempt. The interception was the work of senior defensive back Grady Harrington, who denied graduate student tight end Jon Crowley a scoring opportunity. The Saints regained possession at their 20-yard line with 6:36 remaining.

Despite the interception, the Saints failed to capitalize, leading to a punt and the Bombers’ retrieval of the ball. Senior running back Jalen Hines dashed for a remarkable 23-yard run on second and 12, propelling the Bombers into the red zone. Although the Bombers couldn’t score a touchdown, Baldin successfully converted a 33-yard field goal, bringing the score to 16–7 with 2:03 left in the first half.

At the half, Schumm had completed 9 of 16 passes for 97 yards and an interception. Kline led the receiving stats with four catches for 65 yards, while Leonard-Osbourne had 67 rushing yards, averaging an impressive 9.6 yards per carry.

Although the first half began slowly for the Bombers, head coach Michael Toerper expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to rebound and perform at their best. He emphasized the importance of execution and delivering on their potential.

The Bombers launched the second half with a powerful 11-play, 72-yard drive, concluding with a one-yard touchdown run by Schumm. The Bombers’ strong running game set the stage for this touchdown, with Leonard-Osbourne and graduate student tight end Dan Mason contributing to the offensive success. Following Baldin’s field goal, the Bombers surged ahead 23–7 with 10:43 left in the third quarter.

A four-play drive further stifled the Saints’ offense, leading to another punt by sophomore wide receiver Jack O’Brien. This time, however, sophomore defensive back Drew Buckley managed to block the punt, giving the Bombers excellent field position at the Saints’ nine-yard line.

It took just one play for the Bombers to score, with Hines dashing nine yards for his first touchdown of the year. Baldin’s extra point widened the gap to 30–7 with 6:46 remaining in the third quarter.

Following this touchdown, the Saints mounted a promising drive, with Lederman completing several passes of over 10 yards. However, the momentum was halted when Lederman scrambled for a 15-yard gain, only to be tackled at the 12-yard line by graduate student defensive back Derek Slywka. On the ensuing play, Lederman threw an interception to Slywka, disrupting the Saints’ offensive rhythm.

Despite being unable to capitalize on the turnover, junior linebacker Darren Brunner executed a 40-yard punt, placing the Saints at their own 46-yard line. This time, the Saints successfully found the end zone, with Lederman connecting with sophomore wide receiver Shea Goodwin for his second touchdown of the season. Fogler converted the extra point, narrowing the score to 30–14 with 12:20 remaining.

After a 29-yard return by graduate student wide receiver Anthony D’Addetta, the Bombers responded with a touchdown of their own. After advancing the ball to the Saints’ nine-yard line and facing a third goal, Schumm targeted senior wide receiver Ben Marinaccio on the goal line for the day’s touchdown. Baldin’s extra point solidified a 37–14 lead with 9:36 remaining.

Continuing their dominant performance, the Bombers once again forced a three-and-out, subsequently finding the end zone. With the ball at the Saints’ four-yard line, Schumm handed it off to Mason, who scored a touchdown, further extending the Bombers’ lead to 43–14 following Baldin’s extra point.

The Bombers ultimately recorded 412 yards of total offense, with Leonard-Osbourne leading the ground attack with 99 yards on 12 carries. He also secured two touchdowns in the game. Kline emerged as the leading receiver with 65 yards.

As the clock wound down, the Bombers’ defense contributed to the scoring, with first-year defensive back Cam Paquette intercepting the Saints’ first-year quarterback Mark Rodeo and returning it 14 yards for a pick-six. Baldin’s extra point sealed the deal with a final score of 51–14.

The Bombers’ defense delivered a commendable performance, effectively containing the Saints’ offense. First-year defensive lineman Carson Ciancuielli emerged as a key player in the contest, leading the defense with 1.5 sacks. Ciancuielli attributed the unit’s success to their aggressive play and camaraderie on the field.

With their Liberty League slate now complete, the Bombers have one more game before their pursuit of a national championship commences. They are set to face the Empire 8 champions, SUNY Cortland, in the 64th annual Cortaca jug, scheduled for noon on Nov. 11 at Bertino Field at Butterfield Stadium.
